Connecting
the dots.

Between software and systems.
Between a good idea and something that works.

I'm Josh. I build with C# and .NET, bringing mathematical thinking to practical engineering problems.

Ideas, made real.

A few ways I turn complex problems
into understandable software.

Dissertation / Mathematical modelling

Epidemic simulation

A modular model exploring how infectious disease spreads through networks, with configurable behaviours and intervention strategies.

  • C#
  • .NET
  • Python
  • xUnit
Inside the project

I built a programmable state machine for disease progression, separated interaction rules into modular components, and added data import and export for analysis. The work brought my mathematics degree and software development together.

Academic project / Full-stack development

Insurance dashboard

A full-stack application for a fictional insurance business, connecting a responsive dashboard, REST API, and relational database.

  • JavaScript
  • PHP
  • SQL Server
  • Azure
Inside the project

I designed a normalised database and import tooling for over 10,000 coursework records. Server-side filtering, sorting, pagination, and aggregation supported the dashboard, which I deployed to a Linux virtual machine on Azure.

Current role / September 2025 - Present

Junior Software Systems Engineer

I develop and support bespoke C#/.NET applications for industrial systems, working with software, electrical, mechanical, and process engineers. My work spans clarifying requirements, implementation, integration, testing, and ongoing support.

Application ownership

I act as the primary software developer for bespoke applications within wider engineering teams, turning unclear requirements into implementation and integration decisions. I also take on unfamiliar applications and prioritise development and testing ahead of acceptance deadlines.

Desktop & device integration

I build WPF/MVVM interfaces and connect C# applications to devices, motion systems, and PLCs. This includes microcontroller communication, integrating vendor interfaces, and bringing existing .NET Framework device libraries into modern .NET applications.

Mathematics & testing

I develop alignment, measurement, and coordinate-transform functionality, applying my mathematical background to practical software problems. Input validation and xUnit tests help check calculations, invalid inputs, and edge cases.

APIs & data models

I extend an existing REST API and its Entity Framework Core model, adding support for related records, metadata, and measurement data. This work also includes planning the transition between API versions.

Diagnostics & recovery

I investigate faults across application state, asynchronous operations, and device communication, improving command handling, timeouts, and recovery. I've also extended a deployed log viewer with filtering, sorting, pagination, and clearer exception information.

Shared tools & collaboration

I contribute code reviews and improve shared components, reusable packages, project templates, and GitLab organisation. I'm also introducing initial CI/CD configuration and commit tooling as part of ongoing workflow improvements.

Alongside development, I support software upgrades and remote troubleshooting, and communicate progress, outstanding issues, and technical risks to colleagues.

Curious by nature.
Practical by choice.

I like understanding how things work.
Then making them work better.

I'm a UK-based software engineer with a background in mathematics. In my role as a Junior Software Systems Engineer, I work on industrial applications and the connections between software and hardware.

I care about clear ownership, readable code, and testing the behaviour that matters. Whether I'm modelling a system or investigating a stubborn fault, I aim to leave something that the next person can understand.

Away from the keyboard, you'll usually find me with a strategy game, a chess puzzle, or a coffee. Often two of the three.

Tools I work with

  • C# / .NET
  • WPF / MVVM
  • REST API maintenance
  • Entity Framework Core
  • SQL
  • Python
  • Git
  • Linux

Something in mind?

I'm always happy to talk software, systems, and interesting problems.
